Worship Committee

The following is taken from the report to the APCM 2007

The worship committee has continued to meet throughout the year-usually every two months. Gill Saunders chairs the Committee. There are nine other members: Wyn Jones, Tony Edwards, Janet Miller, Ian Hogg, Mike Finney, Elaine Evershed, Frances Morrow, Maureen Gadsby, Russell Stannard,

The range of issues that we discuss continues to be varied. We consider all aspects of our church’s worship, aiming to improve it wherever possible and to make the worship as accessible as possible to all. We pray for guidance in all our decisions and are very conscious that we are trying to cater for all members of our church family.

Throughout the year we have continued to monitor the wide range of services that take place both in St Mary’s church and St Barnabas’. These services have included, amongst others, a Pet service, a Renewal of Marriage Vows service and an Iona –style service. At our meetings we try to spend a short time in reflecting on what has gone well-or not so well!- in the services since we last met and try to help plan for the weeks ahead. Again it has been a great privilege for us all to see how many members of our congregation have been able to lead and actively partake in services. The 10 o’clock Eucharist on the third Sunday of each month has provided the opportunity for various groups within our Church to minister to us and, during the Vacancy at least, we hope this will continue.

The year has seen the reintroduction of the Family service. This now takes place on the first Sunday of the month at 11:30 and we hope that, amongst other things, it will provide a special welcome for those who have recently been baptised or had a child baptised at St Barnabas’.

As a group we welcome comments, suggestions and advice from all members of St Barnabas in taking our Worship forward and in meeting the needs of all.
