Sunday School

The following is taken from the report to the APCM 2010

We are very proud of our Sunday School. It may be small (5 children come regularly) but it is run by a totally dedicated team who work hard to teach the children about Jesus and God’s love in a very informal and gentle way. We use Bible stories and craftwork and include plenty of chatter and play, which is enjoyed by everyone! Preparing a balanced lesson is quite a challenge but we work as pairs – one to teach and one to assist, so the load is always shared.

Sunday School is also active in various Church events. We make posies for Mothering Sunday and Christingle Oranges at Christmas. Our Hook-A-Duck and Pick-A-Lollipop stall was a great success at the Summer Fair and our Chocolate Tombola at the Autumn Fair attracted almost as many adults as children!

We are a happy team and, as is always the case, this is due to good leadership. For 7 years Jenny has worked very hard to keep us active and involved in the life of the Church. All that we have achieved in 2009 has been under her relaxed but totally dedicated leadership. She has, in her own words, “led from the middle, rather than the front”, enabling us to grow as a group and develop our own individual styles of teaching. Now, however, she has decided to leave us and concentrate on leading the Church Music Group. Happily, Kimberley has now joined us as a teacher, so the Smith family is still a valued part of Sunday School!

So, Thank You, Jenny, for all your hard work over these 7 years. As the new leader I am beginning to realise just how much is involved in keeping a group up and running. You have smoothed my path for me in a typically generous way and given me a wonderful example to follow. Sunday School is alive, well and in good heart!
