Annual Report 2007

The Friends of St Mary’s is still going strong, with our numbers standing at about 130. We always lose a few from people who join on impulse on a Sunday visit, but we gain with new people each summer.

The work goes on down there with work-parties every first Saturday of the month. We hope this will be a bit easier to keep up with this coming year, as the large area to the right as you enter the main gate has been levelled. Once the grass has returned, albeit with a little judicial seed- sowing it should be possible to use a mower on it. For those of you who may not be able to visit and see for yourselves, the headstones have been left in situ and where people asked specifically for graves to be left, this has been done. Of course, those graves have to be maintained during the year. If not touched for a year the PCC are within their rights to authorise removal of the kerbstones and the mound levelled.

The tower was repointed last year which was a job sorely needed. It now looks very smart indeed. The tombstones that needed re-building have been done. There is other work needing to be done, which we hope to address this year. All the income from events last year was donated to the Hall Fund, as this year's will be. We hope there will be two more events this coming year.
